It’s kinda interesting how both Stephen and Mal are very much people that look to the past while planning the future, just that Stephen does it with videos and Mal with writing.
I got the same cover as Mal! My husband and I have really gotten into biking together recently, and I love the art, so it’s perfect. This will be my third (edit: fourth!) year in the Cousin, and I don’t fill in every page but it’s so nice that it’s always there for me when I return to it
Oooh I love the regular Hobonichi video! The five year planner looks gorgeous - I've loved bullet journalling because of the sizes and how much I enjoy scrapbooking too, so hearing how Mal likes glueing things into the 5 year planner is cool. And its really interesting how Stephen said about 2025 being an interesting year and a blank slate - I sometimes find a problem I have with one-year planners is once you finish them, they can feel very 'out of sight out of mind' you know? I tried a Weeks for this year but didnt follow it through, I'm tempted to give it another try *and* maybe a five year planner too! 😊
this reminded me that i still gotta get a mother hobonichi! i definitely will for 2025. I'm a big fan of planners and calendars, planning out stuff is so fun for me
You know I never made the connection between Stephen’s vlogging and Mal’s journaling before - but especially since she does it daily it’s kind of the same thing isn’t it? That’s fun :). Makes me wonder what you guys choose to show and write about the same day (for yourselves to be clear - obviously that's private!)
I just ordered one of these! Havent used their planners before, loved Bullet Journaling for my ADHD brain, but it was a bit hard to keep up with. Heard from y'all and other Earthbound lovers about Hobonichi so I'm excited to try it!
I love the cover! It represents you and Stephen AND Keppy 🤗 When you showed those stick-on sleeves I said That’s what I need! I’m moving and bought about 20 of the large yellow and black containers to use along with boxes. I’ve been writing the contents on paper and taping the list to the containers. Using this stick on sleeves and index cards are much better for reusing. I hope in the next 5 years you can write in there… “We bought a house!” 🤗
I had ordered a Techo for next year for the first time in a few years and *very* strongly considered getting that same cover, it's pretty great. Ended up going with one of the Colours covers, and also conveniently was able to get a Mr. Saturn plush delivered in the same order.
Mal really opened it to feb 29th, the one day that occurs only once in 2025-2029. It happened twice in 2019-2024 and will happen twice again in 2039-2044. Those last years seem so alien. 2037 is gonna actually happen? What was I talking about.
Good to know that you can stuff the 5-year in with minor adjustments for my next one! I have a 5-year one from another brand that I fully tore down the covers of to stuff it in hobonichi A6 covers. I have a friend, who does book binding as a hobby, help me cover up the damaged inside pages.
Oh this is good to know, about fitting the 5 year inside a regular cover. I have an existing one that I think I’d like to reuse. It’s actually by the same artist as the one Mal got, from 2023!
man, i wish i could get into journaling or bullet books but ive just never been able to. I also don't have enough appointments or hobbies / things to make it worthwhile haha, but its a gorgeous set up that Mal has!!
I can totally relate to this. Stuff like this scratches an itch for me but I feel like I don't have enough going on in my life to need a bullet journal or a planner. But I love the idea of the 5 year where you can compare one year to the next so I kinda want to try...
I got my techo order is here as well! I ordered a daily and the Milky Well cover for myself, as well as a daily and that same cat cover design for my goddaughter!
I wish I could invest in stuff like this, but I am horrible with not keeping up with planners. It all looks so pretty! On the bright side though, I have finally been able to figure out that marker board calendars work for me pretty well
I just got my hobonichi stuff too! Next year is going to be my first time using the 5 years one. I am excited and it feels exciting that Mal is also starting her new one💖
that cover is sooo cute! It was actually one of my candidates to pick for this year, but I went with one of the covers that have a zipper. I still use the daily A6 since it still suits my needs plus i love the covers that have more texture to them (my cover this year is the "berries" one). also i had no idea about the little saying inside the cover omg. i always look forward to mal's hobonichi haul every year
I haven't done a techo because I have a hard time justifying the price when I can find something comparable cheaper but I started a 5 year this year. I'm still getting a feel for what to right but I can't wait to start year 2 and finally be able to look back
That is a adorable planner! I've tried almost every year to get into using one but cant quite figure it out i guess lol. Mal would you please make a video showing how you utilize your planer?
I only use the 5 year as a journal/scrapbook. When I was using a Weeks, I just listed what I needed to do every day for the week. Nothing fancy, nothing pretty.
I started using the Hobonichi Techo because of an old vlog where Mal showed what she got, so it's always nice to see what Mal gets every year! Been a fan of the A6 and I grabbed the original in english because they finally translated that (last year they only opened orders for it in October) so I'm looking forward to trying it out.
This is going to be my first year with a Techo. I got a five year for journaling and a cousin for my day to day planning/tracking. It’s kind neat that it means my 5 year syncs with Mal’s.
I have been telling my girlfriend about Hobonichi Techo and I got us a 5 year for personal use and a weekly planner for professional use. Can’t wait for her to get it.
I read Piranesi by Susanna Clarke recently, which is a novel composed of the main character's journal entries. At one point, the narrator described his method for indexing journal entries, which I found really fascinating and got me in the mood to journal myself Between that and this vlog, I think I've been convinced to get myself a techo next year. Gonna get the A6 Hon, with the fox delivering the crescent moon on the cover :p
I'd been thinking of getting back into physical journaling for a bit but I'm not sure how I'd go about it. although I love the idea of the 5 year and might attempt something like that for next year. RUclips has so many videos on journaling and bullet journaling where I feel like this has potential for a MalMakes stream. Like how to set one of these up
tfw I really really want to have a hobonichi techo, but I'm too married to text docs for journaling (and too worried I'd run out of space to write stuff)
Forgive my ignorance but by my calculations that’s four years not five. Do they consider it five because it comes out early? What month do they start it on?
Thank you for sharing, Mal! You're the reason I started using Techo back in 2020, and I just received my Cousin in the mail about a week ago. I also got the bicycling kitties! 😂 (They were just so dang cute.) I recently got my first fountain pen as well and I'm excited to pair the two of them together going into 2025.
The little saying inside the techo cover, "なんでもない日、おめでとう。" translates to "Happy ordinary day"! Also, that's a super cute cover.
I love how you show the both of you together instead of just having a pair of hands like most Hobonichi reviews do. Well done!

There's a video by "The Doing Desk" that shows how they make it fit.
@@MalMakesthank you!

I think this is the year i get hobonichi and start properly journaling. Ive been thinking about it since I saw the last video so I'll jump in on it
Gotta get a cover for your cover! XD

Mal could just put the back flap in and use it that way. No need to cut!
Cover buddies! I got that cover too

3:01 - "There's a mouse playing a moon harp."
Without missing a beat I said aloud "That's Dan."
So do with that as you will.

I read that book early this? year. Fascinating visuals/concept.
Fun fact the founder of the Hobonichi company is Shigesato Itoi!

I completely understand if you don’t want to do so, but I would like to see what the completed 5 year looks like when Mal is finished
How is 2029 within a 5 year span? Also how is 2025 4 months from now
I bet that 2020-2024 book is a wild ride to read a lot happened
25, 26, 27, 28, 29
@@enesevanderwalt5900 I mean how as in I'm surprised what year it is. Like I'm surprised 2029 is not a distant future.

Instead of cutting it, why not just keep it in the back side?

2025, 2026, 2027, 2028, 2029.
